With an astonishing debut season, the Vermont Frost Heaves brought fan-friendly, affordable pro basketball to two of the most beloved buildings in the state, “the Aud” in Barre and Burlington’s Memorial Auditorium. From local food at our concessions stands; to players on our bench; to our head coach, Cabot product Will Voigt, chosen in a New England town meeting-style online vote of our fans, the entire Frost Heaves experience used a home-grown flavor to draw huge, energetic crowds. Our fans represented the full spectrum of demographics and held the attention of the statewide media from the holiday shopping season through the spring. More than that, we became champions not only of the American Basketball Association, but also of the community, collaborating with such charities as the Red Cross, the March of Dimes and anti-hunger organizations; visiting schools and retirement communities; and modeling environmental stewardship by offsetting our carbon emissions with renewable energy credits and traveling to away games on a biodiesel bus.
